Sustainability
It is critically important that our agricultural operations are sustainable and in balance with the natural surroundings. Our vineyards have been sustainably farmed for years and are now certified in the SIP program (Sustainability in Practice).
Cattle graze the expanse of the ranch relying on native vegetation for feed and water from the Sisquoc River, La Brea Creek, and numerous natural springs.
The footprint of our two estate vineyards is less than 1% of the ranch area, and we minimize impacts on the surrounding land by protecting adjacent arroyos as wildlife corridors, controlling erosion using cover crops and mulch. We use sustainable farming practices in the vineyards which benefits the surrounding area and maintains healthy soils and the precious grapevines that thrive in them.
A solar array in adjacent pasture generates enough electricity to power the winery’s production. The solid grape material left as a byproduct of winemaking is composted on the ranch.
